Electricity distributors raked in N203.61bn from customers last month, according to the NERC report.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has revealed that Electricity Distribution Companies, or DisCos, garnered a substantial N203.61 billion from consumers of electricity in the month of April.

This revelation was made public through the commission's Commercial Performance Factsheet for April, which was posted on its X handle on a Tuesday.

The factsheet's key findings indicated that the 11 DisCos successfully collected N203.61 billion out of a total of N252.43 billion in billings for the month in question.

A notable increase in collection efficiency was recorded, rising to 80.66 per cent, which resulted in a total revenue collection of N203.61 billion for the month, as stated in the factsheet.

According to the report, the DisCos received electricity valued at N302.96 billion and subsequently billed customers N252.43 billion, with N203.61 billion of this amount being collected.

The collected amount translated to a collection efficiency of 80.66 per cent, marking an increase of 1.07 percentage points from the preceding month.

The billing efficiency was reported to be 83.32 per cent, representing a slight decline of 0.57 percentage point compared to the previous month.

The industry's revenue recovery efficiency stood at 82.11 per cent, with an average actual collection per kilowatt-hour of N102.13, compared to the allowed average tariff of N124.39 per kilowatt-hour.

Eko DisCo, Abuja DisCo, and Ikeja DisCo were listed as the top performers in terms of revenue recovery efficiency for the month of April, with efficiency levels of 102.09 per cent, 89.77 per cent, and 88.89 per cent, respectively.

As noted in the factsheet, these particular DisCos achieved the highest levels of recovery efficiency during the month of April.
