In response to complaints from residents about a foul smell in certain areas of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Government is urging citizens to remain calm, as it works to address the issue. The government's commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and the overall well-being of residents remains unwavering, according to the State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun.

Olatunbosun issued a statement on Sunday in Ado Ekiti, explaining that the state government has been conducting thorough investigations, inspections, and surveillance in areas where the obnoxious odour has been reported.

These efforts, which began after residents reported the smell, involve coordinating with relevant institutions and experts to review the situation, share information, and determine the best course of action to identify the source of the odour.

The commissioner assured residents that the government will continue its investigation and take all necessary measures to address any environmental or public health concerns in the state, with the goal of ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.

So far, the surveillance and inspection exercises have identified activities that contribute to environmental nuisance and foul odours, including indiscriminate sewage disposal, poor waste management practices, and the discharge of decomposed materials into public channels.

As a result, enforcement measures have been taken against identified offenders, including prosecution, sealing of affected premises, clearing of environmental nuisances, and fumigation of affected areas, in order to mitigate activities that could generate or worsen the odour.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has also conducted air and gas analysis to gather scientific information that can help identify the nature and possible source of the reported odour.

The situation is being closely monitored, and the state government is collaborating with relevant agencies and experts to ensure that the matter is properly investigated and addressed, according to Olatunbosun.
