Ekiti begins renovation, upgrade of NYSC oientation camp

The Ekiti State Government has begun the renovation and infrastructural upgrade of the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Emure-Ise-Orun, Ekiti State.

Recall that Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, had recently pledged to revamp the facility and improve conditions for corps members serving in the state.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Gold Adedayo, who spoke on Wednesday during an inspection tour of ongoing projects at the camp, stated that 19 projects were currently being executed at the facility.

Adedayo said, “The massive renovation of this facility is a demonstration of the Governor Oyebanji administration’s commitment to youth development. The upgrade, upon completion, will transform the camp into one of the best NYSC orientation facilities in the country.”

The commissioner, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work at the camp, praised the contractors for their commitment to delivering the projects within schedule.

Adedayo, who inspected projects including the gatehouse, registration centre, five male and seven female hostels, dining section, kitchen, stores, perimeter fence and the NYSC State Coordinator’s Lodge, said, “These projects will give the camp a modern outlook and provide a more conducive environment for corps members during orientation programmes in the state.”

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Mr Olubunmi Talabi, said the projects were being executed simultaneously under the supervision of his bureau and would be completed within the timeframe set by the governor, allowing corps members to resume camp activities as scheduled.

Talabi said that “solar lighting solutions will be installed across all buildings and facilities within the camp to enhance illumination, improve security and provide a better experience for corps members and camp officials.”

He added that local contractors and artisans were engaged in line with the state government’s local content policy, expressing optimism that the projects would be completed within two months.

Talabi said the level of progress recorded so far indicated that the project would be delivered to the satisfaction of stakeholders.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Adeola Ige, recalled the challenges previously faced by the camp and hailed Governor Oyebanji for the intervention, saying the impact of the renovation would be enormous.
