Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji Rolls Out 5,000 Campaign Ambassadors for Reelection Push

Ekiti State Governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, launched an initiative on Friday, inaugurating 5,000 canvassers to support his re-election bid and that of President Bola Tinubu.

The canvassers, known as Person-to-Person Community Canvassers for Biodun Oyebanji/Monisade Afuye and President Bola Tinubu, were assembled by the Director-General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs Mary Oso-Omotosho, to bolster the campaign effort.

Oyebanji expressed his gratitude to the canvassers for their role in securing votes for his re-election and that of the President, while also urging all stakeholders to maintain peaceful conduct in the lead-up to the June 20 governorship election.

The governor appealed to the people of Ekiti to vote for the APC in the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections, stating that a strong showing of support would be a fitting way to thank President Tinubu for his efforts in the state.

Oyebanji voiced his confidence in the APC's chances in the Ekiti governorship election, emphasizing the party's aim for a substantial vote margin, which would bode well for the 2027 polls.

He cautioned the canvassers to conduct themselves peacefully, saying "we are one in Ekiti State; we should not allow politics to divide us" and urged them to avoid confrontations with others.

Oyebanji also called on contestants and opposition party members to engage in decent and respectful campaigning, allowing the people of Ekiti State to make informed choices based on the candidates' manifestos.

The governor further encouraged eligible residents to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter Card and participate in the election.

According to the DG, Bureau of Community Communications, Oso-Omotosho, the 5,000 canvassers were motivated by Oyebanji's achievements and were driven by a desire for community service and collective progress.

Oso-Omotosho outlined the canvassers' assignment, explaining that each was tasked with bringing at least 25 voters to the polls, with the overall goal of delivering 125,000 votes for the governor in the next election.

A dedicated vote-tracking website had been created to monitor the canvassers' progress and track the numbers, Oso-Omotosho added.

The canvassers, comprising ordinary citizens from various walks of life, were tasked with door-to-door, house-to-house, and person-to-person outreach to garner support for the governor's re-election.

Oso-Omotosho praised Oyebanji's leadership style, describing it as a rare and humanitarian approach to governance that had inspired the canvassers to take action.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Mrs Monisade Afuye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Adeoye Aribasoye, and Chief of Staff to the Governor Niyi Adebayo, among others.

Representatives from the Christian and Islamic communities, indigenous groups, youths, market women, artisans, and the Organised Private Sector were also in attendance, lending their support to the initiative.
