Ekiti 2026: APC campaign targets five million votes for Oyebanji – Senate Leader

The Senate Leader and Chairman of Ekiti State 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has said that the council is looking beyond the June 20 governorship election in its approach and strategy.

Bamidele said that the campaign would be inclusive, transparent, credible, well-coordinated and designed to deliver a minimum of 500,000 votes for the governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji and repeat of the feat in the 2027 general elections.

The Senate Leader, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday evening after the campaign council’s meeting, said, “We will want to run an inclusive campaign, we will run a political campaign that will not only deliver the governor as the candidate of the party, but a campaign that will prepare the state for the subsequent elections.

“We will not only run a campaign, we are also planning to run a fanfare that will help stimulate the average voters in Ekiti State. The governor has also emphasised the need to run his campaign in a way that would have also prepared the people for the 2027 presidential election, National Assembly elections, as well as the House of Assembly election,” he said.

Bamidele expressed confidence in Oyebanji’s performance, saying that the administration’s track record would serve as a strong selling point for the campaign, assuring that the achievements recorded by the governor would resonate with the electorate and translate into massive support at the polls.

The Senate Leader, who said that the campaign council had been carefully populated to ensure wide representation across the state and to effectively reach the grassroots, noted that the council would adopt a focused and issue-based approach, highlighting Oyebanji’s achievements while presenting a forward-looking agenda to the people of the state.

In his remark, the governor said he was satisfied with the progress recorded so far by the campaign council, noting that the efforts of the council and party stakeholders had laid a solid foundation for a successful election.

Oyebanji commended the strategic planning and grassroots mobilisation already underway, describing them as a key driver that would strengthen the party’s outreach and engagement with voters across the state.

Also speaking, the Director General of the Campaign Council, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, said that the target was to ensure that the governor won by a landslide, noting that “securing less than 500,000 votes in the governorship would be considered below expectation”.

He stressed that the campaign machinery had been structured to cover all wards and local government areas, ensuring robust mobilisation and effective voter engagement at the grassroots.
