Eid-el-Kabir: FRSC mobilises patrol vehicles, deploys personnel in Niger, Jigawa

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Niger State Command, has deployed 600 personnel to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the state.

This is disclosed in a statement by the Sector Commander, A’ishat Sa’adu, issued to newsmen on Monday in Minna.

Sa’adu said the special operation would cover major highways across Niger, beginning Monday, May 25.

She added that the command had also mobilised 12 patrol vehicles, one tow truck, and three ambulances to support the operation.

According to her, the deployment is designed to ensure free flow of traffic, provide prompt rescue services, and enhance the safety of road users before, during, and after the festive period.

Sa’adu stressed the need for collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property throughout the celebration.

The sector commander advised motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and shun driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“Motorists and other road users are advised to obey all traffic rules and regulations, avoid speeding, and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs so that they can arrive at their destinations alive,” she advised.

Jigawa Command

On the other hand, the Jigawa State Command has also deployed 581 personnel, ambulances, and patrol vehicles for the Eid-el-Kabir special operation in Jigawa.

The operation is aimed at ensuring safe and hitch-free celebrations across the state.

This is contained in a statement by Yahaya Ibrahim, spokesman of the corps, on Sunday in Dutse.

He said the deployment comprised 461 regular personnel, 120 special marshals, eight patrol vehicles, and four ambulances, positioned at strategic locations for effective monitoring and rescue services.

Ibrahim said the operation would run from May 25 to May 31, to address increased human and vehicular movement during the Eid celebrations.

He said the operation is designed to ensure safe road use, reduce crashes, and ease traffic flow on major highways.

The spokesman said the corps had intensified public enlightenment campaigns and traffic regulations enforcement to promote responsible driving among motorists and other road users.

“The operation is focused on reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) on highways and major roads in the state,” he said.

He said the corps would embark on aggressive enforcement and mobile court operations against traffic offences such as speeding, dangerous driving and overtaking, lane indiscipline, route violations, overloading, use of phones while driving, and underage driving.

“Other offences include seatbelt and child restraint violations, passenger manifest offences, operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, loading of trailer with passengers, and illegal use of spy number plates,” he said.

While urging motorists and road users to obey traffic rules to ensure a peaceful and accident-free celebration, Ibrahim assured of the corps’ commitment to ensuring free flow of traffic, safety of lives and property.
