Edo State: Two Arrested by NSCDC for Alleged Kidnapping, Molestation of Young Girl

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested two suspects and rescued a teenage girl who was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Patrick Ebojele, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the incident occurred amid renewed efforts by security agencies and the Edo State Government to strengthen the fight against violent crimes, particularly offences involving women and children.

According to the statement, the incident was reported on June 19, 2026, after one Odion Enokhimion lodged a complaint at the NSCDC Ewohimi Division over the disappearance of his sister, who was allegedly taken away by unknown persons a day earlier.

Following the complaint, operatives launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Orhiabor ThankGod, 20, and Saturday Freedom, 16, both residents of Ewohimi. The victim was also rescued and taken into protective care.

The statement added, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, has arrested two suspects and rescued a teenage girl who was recently abducted and sexually assaulted in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

“The incident was reported on June 19, 2026, after Odion Enokhimion lodged a complaint at the NSCDC Ewohimi Division over the disappearance of his sister, who was allegedly taken away by unknown persons a day earlier.

“Following the complaint, operatives of the command launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Orhiabor ThankGod, 20, and Saturday Freedom, 16, both residents of Ewohimi. The victim was also rescued and taken into protective care.”

Ebojele said the NSCDC investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly contacted the victim’s relatives after the abduction and demanded a ransom, initially requesting N800,000 before reducing it to N300,000.

He added that conversations between the suspects and the victim’s family were traced and recovered from a mobile phone belonging to one of the suspects, while an account allegedly linked to the suspects was also identified during the investigation.

According to the statement, a medical examination conducted at the Edo State Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Sen. Daisy Ehanire Danjuma Vivian Centre, Benin City, confirmed that the victim was sexually assaulted. She has since received medical treatment and counselling.

The NSCDC said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
