Edo IRS urges taxpayers to file tax returns before March 31

The Edo State Internal Revenue Service on Sunday urged individuals, professionals, and business owners in the state to file their annual tax returns before the March 31 deadline.

In a statement by the Executive Chairman of the EIRS, John Odior, the notice was issued to help taxpayers avoid administrative penalties.

In the statement, Odior emphasised that filing is a “non-optional, statutory, legal, and civic obligation.”

He added, “The mandate applies to a broad spectrum of the Edo State workforce, including employees and professionals, entrepreneurs and business owners, online traders and content creators, tradesmen and women in the informal sector.

“The requirement, according to the public notice, is rooted in Section 24 (f) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 13 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025.”

Odior said that to streamline the process, the EIRS has shifted to an electronic system, allowing taxpayers to fulfil their obligations from the comfort of their homes or offices.

To complete the filing process, he urged taxpayers to visit www.eirs.gov.ng to download Tax Form A with attachments, which must include a duly completed self-assessment form, total income from all sources for the preceding year, details of personal reliefs and tax computations, audited financial statements (for business or trade income), a valid taxpayer ID, and evidence of payment of the tax due.

n, warning that failure to comply, refusal to file, or submission of incomplete or inaccurate information would result in administrative penalties as prescribed under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act.n

“Tax filing is not just a legal requirement; it is a vital contribution to the growth and development of Edo State,” the statement added.

He urged taxpayers who have enquiries or need assistance to visit the nearest EIRS branch office or contact the service via its dedicated helpline at 0813 097 0146.
