Ebonyi Community Sees End to 90-Day Restriction as Nwifuru Eases Curfew Following Fatalities

The Ebonyi Government has lifted the over three-month curfew imposed on Amasiri community following the violent boundary clash and killings in Okporojo, Edda Local Government Area of the state.

The lifting was announced after a state security council meeting presided over by the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru, in Abakaliki on Monday.

The curfew was imposed in February 2026 following fatal boundary disputes between Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area and Okporojo in Edda LGA, where no fewer than four persons were beheaded during the crisis.

A statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Monday Uzor, said, “Arising from the State Security Council meeting, the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Amasiri Community of Afikpo Local Government Area has been lifted.”

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Director, Department of State Services, Mrs Eneh Kolawale, said the lifting order was total and that schools and hospitals had also been reopened in the affected communities.

Kolawale noted that despite the lifting, security personnel would remain operational in the area to ensure that peace was fully restored.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Ben Odoh, said the state council decided to lift the curfew after the communities showed remorse.

On the delisting of Amasiri Development Centre, Odoh said the bill had been rejected.

“We have persuasion and pleas from the Founding Fathers and Elders’ Council to reject the delisting of Amasiri Development Centre; consequently, a memo will be sent to the State Assembly conveying the rejection, and by implication, we now have a complete 64 Development Centres,” he said.

The Head of Service, Rita Okoro, said her office was directed to ensure the immediate reopening of schools and hospitals, stressing “that a memo will be sent to relevant agencies to recall to their previous duty posts all those civil servants who were transferred out of Amasiri as a result of the crisis.”

While the Commissioner for Information, Ikeuwa Omebe, assured that the government would remain alive to its duty of protecting lives and property.
