Durosinmi targets Belgian Golden Boot

Genk striker Rafiu Durosinmi has set his sights on winning the Belgian Pro League’s top-scorer award after making an impressive start to the season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria international scored Genk’s opening goal in their 2-1 defeat at Zulte Waregem on Sunday and was named Man of the Match despite his side failing to hold on to their lead.

Durosinmi, however, is already looking beyond his impressive debut and has made the golden boot one of his major targets for the campaign.

“I want to score, I want to finish high in the standings, and I also want to go for the top scorer title. I have always dreamed of that,” Durosinmi told DAZN.

The 25-year-old will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare, who have both finished as the Belgian top-flight’s leading scorers.

Arokodare provides Durosinmi with a particularly relevant benchmark, having scored 14 league goals for Genk in the 2024/25 campaign to finish as the Pro League’s top scorer.

Durosinmi has already opened his account and needs 13 more goals to match Arokodare’s tally, with the Nigerian now looking to establish himself as Genk’s main attacking threat.

His individual performance against Zulte Waregem was nevertheless overshadowed by Genk’s disappointing start to the campaign.

“Of course I would have preferred to win, because then this would have been a great moment to celebrate,” he added.

Durosinmi’s header gave Genk an early advantage, but Zulte Waregem fought back to claim all three points and leave the visitors without a point on the opening weekend.

The striker will have another chance to add to his tally when Genk host Westerlo at the Cegeka Arena on Saturday.

With almost the entire campaign still ahead of him, Durosinmi will now look to turn his promising start into a sustained scoring run as he pursues the top-scorer prize he says he has always dreamed of.
