Divine intervention through Oyebanji is reuniting Ekiti 133 years on from the Kiriji War, claims top APC official

An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Ekiti State, Abiodun Borisade, has said God is using the Governor and APC governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, to unite the state 133 years after the Kiriji War.

The Kiriji War was a 16-year civil conflict fought between 1877 and 1893 among Yoruba sub-ethnic kingdoms, involving the Western Yoruba—mainly Ibadan and Oyo-speaking groups—and the Eastern Yoruba, including Ekiti, Ijesa, Ijebu, Yagba and others.

Borisade spoke on Monday at Ijero Ekiti while awaiting the arrival of Oyebanji’s campaign train to Ijero Local Government Area. He praised the administration’s focus on unity and commended the governor for bringing together people from different towns, religions, and political backgrounds.

He said, “The last time in the collective history that Ekiti spoke with one voice was during the Kiriji War (1877–1893), unifying to form the Ekiti Parapo. God is using Governor Oyebanji to unite the state once again 133 years after the Kiriji War.”

The APC chieftain, who restated his commitment to Oyebanji’s re-election bid, said the governor would make political history in Ekiti.

“Come June 2026, the ‘child of destiny’, Biodun Oyebanji, through divine intervention, will be claiming a spot in the political history of Ekitikete, having galvanised the entire political space to ensure his return to office for a second term,” he said.

Borisade added that he and his team were mobilising support for the governor across communities ahead of the campaign visit.

Supporters of the APC chieftain from Iloro Ekiti and Ijurin Ekiti were dressed in T-shirts and fez caps bearing inscriptions in support of Oyebanji’s re-election.

He also said his team had been conducting door-to-door mobilisation, expressing confidence that the governor would secure over 500,000 votes in the election scheduled for June 20.
