Desmond Elliott pushes for re-election ahead of APC primaries

Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliott has intensified efforts to secure another term in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the All Progressives Congress primaries in Surulere.

Elliott, who represents Surulere Constituency, said continuity in representation would help sustain development projects and strengthen the constituency’s influence within government.

The lawmaker spoke during a ward tour across Surulere ahead of the APC primaries scheduled for May 21.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, party members, community leaders and supporters attended the engagements to endorse his re-election bid.

n

“I am overwhelmed and very honoured. People left their places of work just to come out and support what we are doing.

n

“They know I cannot do everything, but they can see that I remain accessible,” he said.

The lawmaker argued that retaining experienced representatives would improve the constituency’s chances of attracting projects and opportunities.

n

“Our people need more jobs, employment and better healthcare.

n

“Instead of learning from the beginning again, we are saying we already understand the process and should apply the knowledge to further develop Surulere,” he said.

Elliott also linked ongoing road, healthcare, education, electricity and security projects in the constituency to sustained legislative engagement and political influence.

He cited the tenure of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as an example of the benefits of experienced representation.

“Continuity matters because experienced lawmakers understand how to attract opportunities and projects to their constituencies,” Elliot stated.

The lawmaker urged APC members to participate peacefully in the primaries and vote for candidates of their choice.

Among political figures who accompanied him during the ward visits were former Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Tajudeen Ajide, former Lagos lawmaker, Kabiru Lawal, and Baruwa.

Speaking during the engagements, Lawal said Elliott’s legislative experience positioned him to attract more benefits to the constituency.

He added that continuity in representation would strengthen Surulere’s political influence and access to development projects.
