Deputy governor mourns Ogun chief imam

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has mourned the passing of the Grand Chief Imam of Yewaland and President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State, Sheikh Sikirulai Babalola, who died at the age of 98.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Salako-Oyedele described the late Islamic cleric as a respected spiritual leader who dedicated his life to faith, scholarship, peace, and community service.

“I join family, friends, associates, and the entire Muslim community in Ogun State in mourning the passing of the Grand Chief Imam of Yewaland and President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State, Sheikh Sikirulai Babalola, who has returned to his Creator at the age of 98,” she wrote.

The deputy governor noted that the late cleric provided spiritual guidance to many people across Yewaland and Ogun State over several decades.

“Sheikh Babalola lived a life devoted to faith, service, scholarship, peace, and community leadership. Over several decades, he provided spiritual guidance to countless people across Yewaland and Ogun State, earning widespread respect for his wisdom, humility, and fatherly counsel,” she stated.

According to her, the death of the cleric marked the end of an era, but his teachings and contributions to Islam and peaceful coexistence would continue to endure.

“His passing marks the end of a remarkable era, but the impact of his teachings, leadership, and contributions to the growth of Islam and peaceful coexistence will continue to endure for generations,” she added.

Salako-Oyedele also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, Muslim leaders, and the wider Muslim community in the state.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Grand Chief Imams of Egba, Ijebu & Remo, the Muslim Ummah, the people of Yewaland, and all who were touched by his life and service.

“May Almighty Allah accept his good deeds, overlook his shortcomings and grant him Aljanah Firdaus. Ameen,” she wrote.
