Dele Momodu explains why he's throwing his support behind Adeleke, even as a member of the ADC party

Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress, has announced his support for Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is seeking a second term in office in Osun State, despite their party affiliations being different.

Momodu made this declaration in a statement released on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for opposition parties to put aside their individual interests and rally behind Adeleke ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

As a former presidential aspirant, Momodu affirmed his commitment to the African Democratic Congress, stating that he joined the party as part of a broader coalition of opposition forces against the APC.

He explained that his decision to join the ADC was based on the party's formation as a broad coalition against the APC, which he described as a "cankerworm" that has severely impacted Nigeria's economy, social cohesion, and democratic institutions.

Momodu expressed his desire to avoid clashes of egos among opposition figures, hoping that the coalition would build on the ADC's earlier successes, including having the second, third, and fourth-placed candidates in the 2023 presidential election.

However, he noted that the envisioned coalition did not materialize, but he remained hopeful that Nigerians would unite against the APC.

Despite the coalition not coming to fruition, Momodu chose to back Adeleke, citing the need for opposition parties to confront reality and act with practical sense, given the situation in Osun State.

Momodu's decision to endorse Adeleke was guided by the fact that the APC has turned Osun State into a "theater of war", making it essential for opposition parties to align and support the Accord Party candidate.

He made it clear that his endorsement of Adeleke was not influenced by personal relationships or family ties, but rather by the governor's impressive track record and popularity.

Adeleke, according to Momodu, is a "global phenomenon" who could easily defeat President Bola Tinubu in a popularity contest, demonstrating his exceptional performance as a governor.

Momodu further praised Adeleke as the most outstanding governor in Nigeria, citing his achievements in various sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, and women's empowerment.

He cautioned opposition parties against providing the APC with an opportunity to manipulate the outcome of the election, emphasizing the need for unity and strategic support for Adeleke.

Momodu specifically warned that opposition parties should not give the APC an excuse to rig the Osun gubernatorial election, scheduled to take place on August 15, 2026.
