Davido calls on Osun electorate to shun aggression and coercion at the polls

Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on political actors and residents of Osun State to ensure a peaceful governorship election, urging candidates to respect the decision of voters.

Davido, in a post on his X handle on Friday, warned against violence, intimidation and actions capable of disrupting peace in the state ahead of the election.

“Let us reject violence, intimidation, provocation, and every act capable of disrupting the peace of our communities. Your vote is your voice, and your choice deserves to be respected,” he wrote.

The singer urged the people of Osun to demonstrate their commitment to democracy and peaceful coexistence, adding, “LET THE OSUN PPLE DECIDE! FREE AND FAIR! VOTE NOT FIGHT!”

Davido, who is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, also declared support for the governor’s re-election bid, saying, “ACCORD IS THE PARTY! ADEMOLA ADELEKE IS THE CHOICE!”

The singer’s message came amid heightened political activities ahead of the Osun governorship election, with major contenders intensifying campaigns for the poll.

The development followed his earlier appeal to governorship candidates, including Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to accept the verdict of the electorate.

Davido had urged all stakeholders to allow the people of Osun to determine the outcome of the election, stressing the importance of a credible and peaceful process.

His involvement in the election has attracted attention due to his influence among young Nigerians and his close relationship with Adeleke.

The singer played a prominent role in Adeleke’s 2022 governorship campaign, where he mobilised support for his uncle, who defeated the then incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress.

Ahead of the 2026 election, Davido has taken a more active role in Adeleke’s campaign activities, joining the Accord Party and supporting efforts to mobilise young voters for the governor’s second-term bid.

The singer had also raised concerns about the credibility of the electoral process, warning that he would seek international attention if the election was compromised.

During a livestream with comedian and content creator, Carter Efe, Davido said he would involve United States President Donald Trump if anything went wrong during the election.

Adeleke, who won the 2022 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, later defected to the Accord Party ahead of the forthcoming poll.

He is expected to face Oyebamiji and other contenders in the governorship race as political parties intensify preparations for the election.
