Davido assures Adeleke of divine backing in Osun governorship race despite criticism from opponents

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly thrown his weight behind his uncle, the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the upcoming state governorship election.

Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, the music icon posted photos of himself sharing a warm embrace with the governor and expressed optimism about the upcoming political contest.

“We got this #aadeleke_01 God got us,” Davido simply wrote.

The singer’s show of support comes at a time of heightened political tension and intense banter among major political stakeholders over the Osun governorship seat.

PUNCH reports that during a youth campaign mobilisation event on Wednesday, the singer appealed to residents of Osun State to shun violence and intimidation ahead of the election, urging political leaders to ensure the election remains peaceful and voters elect their preferred candidate.

Responding to the singer, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, claimed that the electorate has lost confidence in Adeleke, telling Davido to prepare his uncle for life after office and officially sign him as a dancer in his musical band.n

Similarly, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo poked fun at the governor’s love for dancing, telling voters to collect money from political opponents but vote for the All Progressives Congress at the August 15 election.

Undeterred by political jabs, Adeleke, who is seeking a second term in office, noted that the governorship election is not merely a contest for victory but an opportunity to send a message to the APC about the need to respect the electorate.n

The governor’s comment reportedly comes against the backdrop of a dispute between his administration and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which on Wednesday placed a Post-No-Debit restriction on the Osun State Government’s statutory allocation account, barely 10 days to the election.
