Customs appoint Jaiyeola as vice captain

A new appointment has been made by the Nigeria Customs Service, with Abdulquadri Jaiyeola being named alternate captain of the men's volleyball team, ahead of the second phase of the 2026 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League, as reported by PUNCH sports extra.
nThis decision was announced in a statement signed by Samuel Onikeku, the service's Head of Sports, on Monday, highlighting Jaiyeola's experience and leadership qualities at both national and club levels as the reasons behind his new role.
nAccording to Onikeku, Abdulquadri Jaiyeola has consistently shown exceptional leadership skills, both at the national and club levels, making him a worthy addition to the team's leadership structure as alternate captain.
nJaiyeola's recent achievements include captaining Nigeria's senior men's volleyball side to qualification for the African Nations Championship qualifiers in Abidjan, demonstrating his capabilities as a leader.
nAs an outside hitter, Jaiyeola currently plays for Al-Wasl SC in Dubai, and has previously risen to prominence with Offa Volleyball Club, representing Nigeria at youth and U-21 levels.
nHe also has experience with the Customs team, having represented the side at the 2021 African Men's Club Championship in Tunisia, showcasing his skills on the international stage.
nThe team's captaincy structure will remain largely unchanged, with Philip Akande continuing as captain, Chris Udah retaining his position as first assistant captain, and Princewill Okoi as second assistant captain.
nOnikeku took the opportunity to commend the players for their performance in the first phase of the league, urging them to build on their showing as they enter the decisive stage of the competition.
nThe Head of Sports praised the team's display of professionalism, discipline, and commitment throughout the first phase, saying that the players must remain focused and continue to work hard as they head into the final phase.
nOnikeku emphasized the importance of complementing their efforts with hard work, teamwork, and consistency in order to achieve their objectives, as the team prepares for the challenges ahead.
