Cross River settles outstanding pay for past five months following demonstration by Obudu Ranch staff

The Cross River State Government has paid five months’ salary arrears owed to workers of the Obudu Ranch Resort, weeks after employees staged a peaceful protest over the non-payment of their wages.

The payment was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Obudu Ranch Resort, Sunday Michael.

According to the statement, workers began receiving payment alerts on Wednesday after Governor Bassey Otu approved the immediate release of the funds.

“The payment, which also includes outstanding allowances, was made on the express directive of the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, for the immediate clearance of all salary arrears owed to workers of the resort,” he said.

Michael said the governor had also directed the resort’s management to ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries to prevent future backlogs.

He added that the payment was in line with the administration’s “People First” agenda and would boost staff morale and service delivery at the resort.

One of the workers, Unimashi Adah, thanked the governor for approving the payment, describing it as a welcome relief after months without salaries.

The workers had on July 1 staged a peaceful protest over the unpaid salaries, calling on the state government to settle the arrears.
