A milestone was achieved by the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon on Sunday in Rabat, as they claimed their maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with a 3-0 victory over Malawi, thanks to a pair of goals from Ngah Manga and a strike from 21-year-old Naomi Eto.

Cameroon's triumph marked a historic turn of events, as the team had previously fallen short in four WAFCON finals, specifically in 1991, 2004, 2014, and 2016, and they have now become the fourth country to secure the continental title, following in the footsteps of Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and South Africa.

Malawi's Scorchers had heavily relied on the talents of sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga throughout their impressive campaign, but the duo was largely stifled during the final match.

Despite not securing the silverware, Malawi's team made history by qualifying for their first-ever World Cup and reaching their first-ever WAFCON final, a notable achievement for the debutants.

The newly crowned champions, Cameroon, will join Malawi, Algeria, and Morocco at the 2027 Women’s FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Brazil.

According to information released by the official CAF Women Football handle on Sunday, the award winners at the TotalEnergies WAFCON 2026 tournament included Temwa Chawinga of Malawi, who received the Golden Boot Award for scoring five goals.

Monique Ngock of Cameroon was named the Woman of the Competition, while her teammate Michaely Bihina earned the Best Goalkeeper award.
