Complete Breakdown: UK Visa and Citizenship Fees for Nigerians Starting April

The United Kingdom government has announced a fee increase for various visa applications, residency processes, and citizenship procedures, effective April 8, 2026, impacting Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to enter the country for different purposes.

The revised fee schedule, as published by the UK Home Office, indicates a rise in fees across nearly all categories of visa applications, both within and outside the UK, affecting visit visas, student visas, work visas, settlement applications, and naturalisation fees.

Nigeria, being one of the largest sources of visa applicants to the UK, will see hundreds of thousands of its citizens affected by these changes, which will come into effect in less than two weeks.

The cost of a short-term visit visa will increase from £127 to £135, while the student visa fee will rise from £524 to £558, as part of the changes.

For Nigerians seeking permanent residency, the fee will be £3,226, up from £3,029, and those applying for British citizenship will pay £1,709, an increase from £1,605.

In a rare exception, the fee for registering a child as a British citizen will decrease from £1,214 to £1,000, a reduction of £214.

All other fees will either increase or remain unchanged, with some categories, such as the Tier 1 (Investor) visa and the High Potential Individual visa, remaining unchanged at £2,000 and £880, respectively.
