Commission Transfers 50,000 Fresh Recruits to Law Enforcement Agencies for Further Instruction

The Police Service Commission on Thursday formally handed over 50,000 newly recruited police constables to the Nigeria Police Force for training.

A statement issued on Thursday by the commission’s spokesperson, Torty Kalu, said the handover was presided over by retired Justice Paul Galumje, Commissioner I.

The statement said the recruitment exercise was conducted in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu and relevant statutory provisions.

Galumje thanked the President for his support of the recruitment process and formally presented the successful candidates to the Nigeria Police Force for training at designated police colleges and other approved institutions.

He also handed over the detailed list of successful candidates, contained in a flash drive, to the police authorities.

Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who oversees the Force Training and Development Department, commended the commission for conducting what he described as a transparent recruitment exercise.

He assured that training of the recruits would commence simultaneously across the country once funds for the exercise were released.

“The training will commence nationwide as soon as funds are released,” Mohammed said.

Also speaking, the representative of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Director of Police Service Department, Ibrahim A. Muhammad, described the recruitment process as credible and transparent.

The Secretary to the PSC, Onyemuche Nnamani, attributed the successful completion of the recruitment exercise to collaboration among stakeholders.

He expressed satisfaction with the outcome, saying the exercise reflected effective teamwork by all parties involved.

President Bola Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency on November 26, 2025, and ordered the recruitment of 50,000 new police officers as part of measures to tackle worsening insecurity across the country.

The Police Service Commission opened the application portal for the recruitment exercise on December 15, 2025. The commission later granted applicants more time, extending the closing date by two weeks to February 8, 2026.

The exercise was concluded roughly seven months after it began.

The recruitment is expected to boost the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force as the new constables proceed for training before deployment.
