Comedian Bovi and actress Nomzamo reenact infamous Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham encounter at Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards ceremony

The 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards witnessed a comedic reenactment of a viral moment, courtesy of Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who recreated the infamous scene involving Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
nThis dramatization occurred during the duo's hosting segment at the ceremony on Saturday, where they brought to life the contentious snub scene that had been trending online after the premiere of The Return of Arinzo.
nIn a skit-like performance, Mbatha portrayed Funke Akindele, while Bovi, acting as Toyin Abraham, made a humorous reference to the viral controversy, leaving the audience in stitches.
nBovi jokingly said, "Aunty, aunty Funke… mtcheeww, if I ever present an award to you, call me bastard," which sent the crowd into laughter.
nA video from the premiere of The Return of Arinzo, previously reported by PUNCH Online, appeared to show Funke Akindele ignoring Toyin Abraham during greetings at the Balmoral Event Centre.
nIn the clip, Abraham was seen greeting Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, and others before approaching Akindele, who seemingly failed to acknowledge her presence.
nThe incident sparked a widespread debate online, particularly given that it came weeks after Akindele had publicly advocated for greater unity and collaboration within the Nigerian film industry.
