The Emir of Potiskum, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, is advocating for a more comprehensive approach to addressing Nigeria's insecurity, emphasizing that reliance on military operations alone is insufficient to resolve the country's security challenges.

He also appealed to governments at all levels to tackle poverty, injustice, and other socio-economic factors that are fuelling conflicts across the nation, in order to create a more stable environment.

Nigeria's diversity is considered one of its greatest assets by the Emir, who noted that the country is blessed with over three hundred ethnic groups, each with its unique customs and languages.

The monarch emphasized that diversity should be viewed as a source of strength, rather than a weakness, and that every Nigerian deserves to feel a sense of belonging, which would inherently inspire public cooperation for national development.

Regarding the current security challenges, the Emir stressed that the government must look beyond the use of force to achieve lasting peace, and instead address the underlying socio-economic causes of conflict with sincerity and justice.

He stated that insecurity cannot be solved by force alone, and that leaders must adopt a more nuanced approach to conflict resolution, taking into account the complex needs and concerns of all citizens.

The Emir believes that national leaders should see themselves as parents to every citizen, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences, and should prioritize the welfare of the citizenry above personal interests.

A national leader, according to the monarch, must act with wisdom and fairness, listening to every citizen without discrimination, correcting mistakes with care, and ensuring that everyone feels valued and appreciated.

The Emir of Potiskum also highlighted the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace and preventing communal conflicts, citing their unique position to advise the government and facilitate peaceful dialogue.

He emphasized that traditional rulers must champion community development, promote education, support economic activities, and foster peace, in order to create a more harmonious and prosperous society.
