City University Abuja Receives NUC Licence, Begins Postgraduate Admissions for 2026/2027 Academic Session

City University Abuja has officially received its operational licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) as a new Private Postgraduate University, paving the way for the institution to commence academic activities and admit its pioneer postgraduate students for the 2026/2027academicsession.

The licence was presented by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu,during a ceremony in Abuja on Friday, 24th July2026, marking the institution’s transition from a proposed university to a fully licensed post graduate private university.

Speaking at the presentation, Ribadu congratulated the promoters of the university for successfully completing the rigorous licensing process. He noted that the approval reflects the Commission’s confidence in the institution’s readiness to deliver quality post graduate education in line with national standards.

According to him, the NUC remains committed to ensuring that every licensed university maintains high standards in teaching, research, governance and infrastructure. He urged the management of City University Abuja to sustain the momentum by adhering to the Commission’s quality assurance framework and regulatory guidelines.

The leadership of City University Abuja described the approval as a landmark achievement and the culmination of years of planning, investment and commitment to educational excellence. The university affirmed that it has put in place the academic resources, modern facilities and administrative structures required to begin operations successfully.

The management also announced that admissions into its pioneer postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session are now underway. The programmes feature a curriculum designed to integrate research and industry, giving students opportunities to gain exposure to global perspectives.
