Chief of Army Staff commissions 3,000 new soldiers in Ebonyi ceremony

On Wednesday, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, presided over the passing-out parade of over 3,000 newly trained recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army in Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State.

This milestone event is a key component of the Federal Government's broader strategy to augment the Army's manpower and effectively address the prevailing security challenges nationwide, as outlined in a statement by Col. Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations.

The statement, titled "COAS passes out another 3,000 recruits, sustains massive recruitment drive to strengthen national defence," highlighted the significance of this latest batch of recruits in bolstering the country's defence capabilities.

According to Col. Anele, this passing-out ceremony follows similar recent events at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, and the newly established training depot in Osogbo, Osun State, underscoring the Army's sustained efforts to enhance its manpower.

Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasized that the training curriculum for these recruits was specifically designed to equip them with the skills necessary to navigate modern warfare and the evolving security landscape in Nigeria.

He exhorted the new recruits to adhere to the principles of discipline, professionalism, and loyalty to the Constitution, stressing that the nation's substantial investment in their training warranted a corresponding level of dedication and courage in their service.

Shaibu further urged the recruits to remain vigilant, disciplined, and focused on their mission, reiterating that their loyalty to the Constitution and the constituted authority must remain unwavering at all times.

The COAS praised the establishment of the Amasiri-Edda Depot as a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering the Army's training infrastructure and manpower development, thereby enhancing its overall operational effectiveness.

He commended the commandant, instructors, and support staff of the depot for producing competent and combat-ready soldiers capable of making significant contributions to ongoing military operations across the country.

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, hailed the siting of the depot in his state as a critical national asset, noting that it has not only improved security but also stimulated economic activity and created opportunities for local residents and neighbouring communities.

Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration's commitment to continued collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies in promoting peace, stability, and development in the region.

The ceremony, which featured a parade, precision drills, and the presentation of awards to outstanding recruits, was attended by senior military officers, government officials, traditional rulers, families of the recruits, and other dignitaries.
