Charlton, Bolton eye Okonkwo

Nigeria international goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is being monitored by EFL Championship clubs Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers, approximately two weeks before the summer transfer window closes, according to Sports Illustrated, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Okonkwo finds himself behind Anthony Patterson and Danny Ward in the goalkeeping pecking order at the Racecourse Ground following Wrexham’s club-record signing of Patterson from Sunderland.

With the Super Eagles shot-stopper in the final year of his contract, the Red Dragons face the prospect of losing him for nothing next summer should he not be sold before the current window or the January window closes.

Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan during the 2023/24 campaign before signing a permanent deal the following season, after spending 15 years at Arsenal, having joined the London club at the age of eight.

He was a key member of the Wrexham sides that earned back-to-back promotions, taking the club from League Two to the Championship, keeping 47 clean sheets in 121 appearances for the Welsh club while conceding 127 goals.

On the international stage, Okonkwo shone as Nigeria won the 2026 Unity Cup, keeping clean sheets in victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
