Canada's Prime Minister supports stripping Prince Andrew of his place in the royal family's order of inheritance

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called for the removal of former Prince Andrew from the line of royal succession on Saturday, citing his "deplorable" behaviour as the reason.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is currently under investigation for alleged misconduct in public office related to his dealings with the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He was taken into custody and subsequently released in February on suspicion of leaking confidential information to Epstein during his tenure as a UK trade envoy from 2001 to 2011.

Carney expressed his stance to reporters in Tokyo, stating that Andrew's actions warrant his removal from the line of succession, given that they have already led to the stripping of his royal titles.

The Canadian Prime Minister was in Japan to engage in discussions with his Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi.

Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles last year due to his alleged connections to Epstein, has maintained his innocence in the face of all allegations.

Virginia Giuffre, who passed away last year, had previously claimed that she was trafficked to have sex with the British royal on three occasions, starting in 2001, with two instances occurring when she was 17 years old.

Andrew settled a US civil lawsuit filed by Giuffre in 2022, without acknowledging any liability.

Carney's remarks follow the announcement by Australia and New Zealand of their support for removing Andrew from the line of succession.

Any changes to the line of royal succession would need to be initiated by Britain, but would also require the consent of the 14 other Commonwealth realms that have King Charles III as their head of state.
