British mother disputes guilty verdict, claims her son was misjudged

According to Mrs Olayinka Akinrinola, a Nigerian woman based in the United Kingdom, the British jury erred in accusing her son of robbery, a claim she made in an interview with Diaspora Tales on Friday.

Following a court session, the jury found her 18-year-old son guilty of multiple crimes, including six counts of blackmail at North Kilworth and three counts of the same charge at Bath Lane.

In addition to the blackmail charges, he was also found guilty of four counts of robbery in North Kilworth and two counts of ABH on two victims in Bath Lane.

British media reports indicate that Oluwatobiloba was arrested and charged with nine counts of robbery after a series of violent incidents that began on November 21, 2025, and continued on November 22, 2025, at Bath Lane.

On the latter date, he was linked to a group of men who broke into a property on Bath Lane, where a male victim was violently assaulted with a belt.

While the British media identified Oluwatobiloba's accomplice as 19-year-old Richile Vagnu, his mother, Akinrinola, maintains that her son is innocent of the charges.

In a separate development, another individual, Ayomide Ibraheem, was apprehended in December 2025 in connection with the robbery incidents.

Reacting to the court's decision, Akinrinola stated that her teenage son was not present at the scene of the incidents on either occasion, and that he is a victim of association and racial profiling by the police due to his black background.

Akinrinola pointed out that the robbery victims reported being robbed of their jackets and footwear, yet none of these items were found in her son Oluwatobiloba Akinrinola's apartment after a police search.

The police investigation also revealed that money was transferred to the accounts of the other suspects, Vagnu and Ayomide, by the victims, but no such evidence was found in her son's bank account records, Akinrinola added.

The sentencing for the case is scheduled to take place on July 17.
