British authorities launch search for suspect believed to have murdered his spouse and two children before escaping to Zimbabwe

A manhunt is underway for Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, a 42-year-old British citizen of Zimbabwean heritage, who is suspected of murdering his wife and two young daughters before fleeing to Zimbabwe, with investigators urging him to surrender, warning that the investigation is not limited by international borders.

The suspect, also known as Mark, was named by Bedfordshire Police on Wednesday in connection with the murders of Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and their two daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, five, whose bodies were discovered on Monday after police forced entry into a house in Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham, Bedfordshire.

CCTV footage of Tshuma has been released by police, who believe he left the UK from Heathrow Airport on Saturday using his British passport, and details of the case are available on the police website, including the launch of a murder investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit on Tuesday, 7 July.

According to the police, although formal identification of the victims has yet to take place, they are believed to be Tshuma's wife and daughters, and Detective Inspector Lee Martin has issued a direct appeal to the suspect, stating that numerous inquiries are being pursued as part of the complex investigation.

Det Insp Martin urged Tshuma to hand himself in, saying "unthinkable harm has been caused to those around you, and this has left your relatives and friends utterly devastated", and emphasizing that the investigation is international in scope, with police working with national and international agencies to track him down.

Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy commented on the scale of the tragedy under Operation Snowdrift, describing it as a "deeply distressing incident" in which a mother and her two children are believed to have been murdered, and expressing concern for the local community and those affected by the tragedy.

ACC Murphy stated that police are committing all necessary resources to establish the facts of the case and to find the person responsible, and that while there is no suggestion of a wider risk to the public, police presence in the area will be increased to support the investigation and provide reassurance to residents.

In Great Denham, a police presence was visible on Tuesday evening, with around four police cars outside the property, which remained cordoned off, and shocked neighbours and community members gathered to pay tribute, leaving flowers on a nearby hedge.

One of those paying tribute described the mother as "such a gracious mother", while another local expressed disbelief that the tragedy had occurred in "such a nice and safe area", and Bedfordshire Police have asked anyone with information to come forward, quoting Operation Snowdrift.
