Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Akure, Ondo State, on Monday to attend the 100th birthday celebration of Chief (Dr.) Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti as a representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, confirmed Vice President Shettima's arrival at the Akure Airport, where he would represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the milestone event.

According to the statement, Chief (Dr.) Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti is a highly revered figure, having been a devoted follower of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and one of the last surviving Awoists, with a storied past in the defunct Action Group and the Unity Party of Nigeria.

Fasoranti's distinguished career also included serving as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State, underscoring his significant contribution to Nigeria's socio-political landscape.

The Vice President's visit was intended to convey the federal government's goodwill to Chief Fasoranti, with Nkwocha stating that Shettima was present to express the Federal Government's appreciation for the elder statesman's enduring impact.

Upon arrival at the Akure Airport, Vice President Shettima was warmly received by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, among other notable political figures.

In preparation for the Vice President's visit, security agencies had taken proactive measures to secure strategic locations throughout the state capital, ensuring a safe and secure environment.

The Ondo State Police Command had deployed a comprehensive security arrangement, described as "watertight," to prevent any potential breaches and guarantee a peaceful celebration.
