The incident that led to the red card was contentious, with the Video Assistant Referee intervening and prompting Brazilian referee Raphael Claus to review the challenge using the pitch-side monitor, despite Balogun not initially being cautioned on the field.

The U.S. Soccer Federation expressed its gratitude for the decision, stating that it accepts the Disciplinary Committee's ruling and is pleased that Folarin Balogun can compete in the upcoming match.
