Blaze ravages two apartments in Gombe, reducing N80m worth of belongings to ashes

Property worth about N80m was destroyed when fire gutted two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel, Gombe State.

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ASF MB Mu’azu, on Friday.

According to the statement, “the command received a distress call about the incident at 3:03pm and mobilised its FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from the ATM Fire Station five minutes later.”

It said firefighters arrived at the scene at about 3:15pm and found that the fire had affected two separate residential flats comprising several rooms.

The statement said, “the crew immediately commenced firefighting operations and eventually extinguished the blaze using a medium jet supplied from the water tender.”

It added that the prompt intervention of the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading and helped save property estimated at N150m.

The statement read, “The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, has successfully contained a fire outbreak involving two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel, Gombe State.”

It said no casualty was recorded in the incident.

The operation, according to the statement, was led by ASF I. Gambo Mohammed, with ASFII Mu’azu Tagwai serving as the driver, alongside other firefighters.

Personnel of the Gombe State Fire Service and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Gona Division, were also said to have supported the emergency response.

The statement added that after the fire was completely extinguished, firefighters inspected the affected premises and confirmed that there was no further fire or immediate threat.

The fire service said its personnel and equipment returned to the station at about 5:38pm.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and observe basic fire safety measures, particularly in residential buildings.

It also advised members of the public to report fire incidents promptly to the nearest fire station to enable emergency responders to act swiftly and minimise loss of lives and property.

“Residents are also advised to promptly report any fire emergency to the nearest fire station to enable swift intervention and minimise loss of lives and property,” the statement added.
