BIC Unveils $2,000 Award for Creative Competition

The seventh edition of BIC's Art Master Africa competition is now open for submissions, with a grand prize of $2,000 and the opportunity for global exposure for creatives across the continent. The competition, which runs from 21 April to 20 July 2026, is open to emerging African artists who will be required to create artworks using only the BIC Cristal ballpoint pen.
nAccording to BIC, the competition aligns with the company's broader commitment to education and creative development, providing a platform for artists to gain recognition beyond their local environments. The initiative aims to empower young talents and amplify their voices globally, with this year's theme, 'Tomorrow in Your Hands', challenging artists to interpret the future through personal and cultural lenses.
nThe Marketing Director, Middle East and Africa at BIC, Gregory Alibaux, emphasized the importance of empowering young artists and encouraging them to express themselves through creativity. He highlighted the magic of using a simple, everyday tool to create a beautiful work of art, and the company's commitment to providing a platform for youth in the region to nurture their talent.
nAlibaux noted that the competition offers more than just a cash reward, providing winners with access to international platforms, including the Art Master Africa Metaverse Gallery, and the opportunity for global visibility. The first-place artwork will also be acquired for the BIC Art Collection, further highlighting the company's commitment to nurturing talent.
nSince its launch in 2017, the biennial competition has grown significantly, attracting over 6,000 submissions from 2,500 artists across 52 countries in its 2024 edition. The competition has played a role in nurturing talent, with past participants like Nigerian artist Oscar Ukonu going on to build notable careers, and Ukonu will return as a judge for the second time.
nInterested participants are encouraged to submit original pieces showcasing personal narratives, cultural identity, and future ambitions via the Art Master Africa website. The competition offers a unique opportunity for creatives to express themselves and gain global recognition, with the simple yet powerful tool of the BIC Cristal ballpoint pen.
