Beijing denounces Britain following guilty verdict in case of former Hong Kong police officer accused of espionage

A statement from the Chinese embassy has condemned the UK's conviction of former Hong Kong policeman Chung Biu Yuen for spying on dissidents, labeling the verdict a "political move" orchestrated by Beijing.

The embassy spokesperson, who remains unnamed, issued a statement on Thursday claiming that Yuen's conviction is a clear example of the UK misusing the law and manipulating the judicial process for political gain.

The statement asserted that the primary goal of the conviction is to bolster anti-China elements in the UK who seek to destabilize Hong Kong and tarnish the reputation of the Chinese government, referring to the verdict as a "so-called verdict).

Chung Biu Yuen, also known as Bill, was one of two individuals found guilty by a London jury on Thursday of assisting a foreign intelligence service, following a trial that lasted several weeks.

The case revealed that Yuen, a 65-year-old former police superintendent, and his accomplice Peter Wai, 40, conducted covert "shadow policing" operations in the UK, targeting Hong Kong dissidents and exiled pro-democracy protesters.

The Chinese embassy expressed strong disapproval of Yuen's conviction, stating that they have made formal representations to the UK and are demanding that London immediately cease its "anti-China political manipulation).
