Bayelsa State Governor Honors Late Mother with Emotional Tribute at Memorial Ceremony

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State delivered a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Mrs Rose Diri, on Friday, describing her as a woman of great virtue during her 13th memorial service in Ayamasa, Ekeremor Local Government Area.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri emphasized the significance of mothers, stating that they play a crucial role in the lives of their children due to the love, care, and warmth they provide.

The governor noted that his mother had a profound impact on the lives of her children, the entire family, and all those who interacted with her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that remains vivid in their memories.

He stated, "Mothers occupy very special places in our hearts, and we were indeed very close to our mother, who will be remembered for her good nature and enduring legacies.

Governor Diri added that although his mother passed away many years ago, her memories will remain evergreen in their hearts, and as they gather to honor her, they should reflect on their own lives and strive to positively impact the lives of others.

The governor revealed that every year on May 15, since her demise in 2013, he and his siblings have quietly gathered to honor her memory, but this year's event was different, with dignitaries from all walks of life in attendance.

He expressed gratitude to the guests, including his deputy, Dr Peter Akpe, and his wife, Dr Favour Akpe, as well as other notable figures such as Senator Konbowei Benson and Oforji Oboku.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Speaker Abraham Ingobere, former Deputy Governor Peremobowei Ebebi, and former APC governorship candidate Chief David Lyon.

Additionally, former Director-General of the Department of State Services Matthew Seiyefa, state representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission board Deinyabofa Dimaro, and former presidential adviser Kingsley Kuku were also present.

The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, Abubakar Zubairu, and the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa Command, Daniel Iyamah, were also in attendance at the well-attended service.

Governor Diri read the only lesson at the service from 2 Timothy 4:6-8, highlighting the importance of living a virtuous life.

In a brief exhortation titled "Mama Rose Came, Saw and Conquered," Rev. Godspower Asingba emphasized the need for people to live exemplary lives so they would be remembered positively for their deeds, citing Mama Rose as an example.

Rev. Asingba noted that Mama Rose touched many lives during her lifetime and left indelible marks on her children, including Governor Diri, who is delivering genuine service to his people.

Wreaths were laid at Mrs Diri's tomb by the governor, his brothers, Friday and Ebiegberi, and the latter's daughter, Mrs Damiebi Trust, in a final tribute to her memory.
