Bayelsa CP presents N2.48m to families of fallen, injured policemen

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Adewale, has presented cheques totalling N2.48m to families of deceased police officers and personnel injured in the line of duty.

The cheques, valued at N2,483,354.01, were presented on Tuesday on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, DSP Musa Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday on behalf of the CP.

The beneficiaries comprised families of officers who lost their lives while performing their constitutional duties, as well as serving personnel who sustained various injuries in the course of service.

The disbursement also included outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following earlier partial settlements.

Speaking during the presentation, Adewale said the exercise went beyond the payment of financial benefits, describing it as an indication of the commitment of the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of personnel and families of officers who died in service.

The CP said, “An injury to one is an injury to all,” assuring the injured officers and bereaved families that they were not alone.

He noted that although no financial compensation could replace a lost loved one or erase the pain arising from an injury, the payment would provide practical assistance to affected families and personnel.

Adewale added that the gesture also reaffirmed that the sacrifices and contributions of police officers were recognised and valued by the Force.

He urged police personnel to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities, noting that welfare interventions were aimed at supporting affected officers and families, as well as boosting the morale of serving personnel.

The CP said the Bayelsa State Police Command would continue to support initiatives aimed at addressing the welfare needs of officers and families affected by the risks and demands of police service.
