Bauchi Taps Public-Private Partnerships to Enhance Livestock Production and Trade

The Bauchi State Government, through the Ministry for Livestock Development, has reaffirmed its commitment to public and private partnerships with other stakeholders to improve livestock production in the state.

The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr Bala Lukshi, made the pledge while receiving members of Integrity Animal Health and Production Services during a courtesy visit to the ministry on Wednesday.

Lukshi said the ministry remained open to strategic collaborations aimed at enhancing productivity, promoting modern livestock practices, and creating economic opportunities for farmers across the state.

According to him, partnerships with credible organisations are crucial to addressing challenges in feed development, animal health management, and market access through digital platforms.

The commissioner disclosed that the ministry was prioritising programmes that empower youths and women in the livestock value chain, stressing that capacity building remained critical to sustainable growth in the sector.

He commended the state governor, Bala Mohammed, for providing policy direction and resources to drive reforms in the livestock sector.

Lukshi added that the administration’s focus on agricultural transformation had expanded outreach and strengthened extension services across the state.

He assured the delegation that its proposal would receive due consideration, noting that initiatives on local feed production and digital marketing would enjoy government support.

Earlier, the leader of Integrity Animal Health and Production Services, Ismail Waziri, said the visit was to seek the ministry’s support for a seminar on local feed conversion and livestock digital marketing.

Waziri explained that the proposed workshop would equip livestock farmers, youths, women, and cooperative groups with practical skills in the use of local resources for feed production and digital tools for improved marketing and profitability.

“The training will bridge knowledge gaps in modern livestock practices and raise awareness on the economic benefits of innovative feed management and product marketing,” he said.

The Integrity Animal Health and Production Services leader further expressed optimism that with the ministry’s backing, the programme would contribute significantly to livestock development in Bauchi State.
