Bauchi Police Commissioner Bemoans Lack of Personnel and Firearms

The Bauchi State Police Command is facing significant challenges due to shortages of personnel, arms, and ammunition, which are hindering its ability to effectively tackle crime in the state, according to Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

Aliyu made this revelation during a visit from Assistant Inspector-General of Police Vungmoh Kwaimo, who is in charge of Zone 12, at the command headquarters on Thursday.

Despite these challenges, the command has achieved notable successes in maintaining Bauchi's reputation as one of the country's most peaceful states, Aliyu noted.

The shortage of personnel is a major concern, as it limits the command's deployment capacity and its ability to respond quickly to emerging security threats, Aliyu explained.

Aliyu emphasized the need to inform Kwaimo about the pressing concerns affecting the command's operational capabilities, including the shortage of manpower and its impact on deployment and response times.

The commissioner also stressed the need for additional personnel to be deployed for quick intervention duties at the Zone 12 headquarters, as well as reinforcement of the command's workforce.

Furthermore, Aliyu highlighted the requirement for more arms and ammunition to support ongoing operations aimed at combating crime in the state.

Kwaimo expressed satisfaction with the command's achievements, praising the commissioner and officers for their dedication to duty.

The AIG acknowledged the concerns raised by Aliyu and pledged to escalate them to the relevant authorities for necessary support.

Kwaimo's visit, which took place on his first trip since assuming office on January 6, 2026, reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring safety and security while upholding human rights and the rule of law.

Kwaimo emphasized that discipline, accountability, and professionalism must guide policing, warning that no officer should compromise the integrity of the force.

The AIG also highlighted the importance of community engagement, intelligence gathering, and technology in modern policing strategies.

Kwaimo assured that the challenges highlighted by Aliyu, including manpower shortages and operational constraints, would be examined and addressed to the best of their ability.

The mission of the police remains the protection of lives and property with honour and integrity, Kwaimo reiterated, assuring residents of sustained efforts to strengthen security across the state.
