BAP Productions’ Dear Kaffy excites London

BAP Productions’ stage play, ‘Dear Kaffy – Diary of a Single Woman in Lagos’, has concluded its London run to critical acclaim, recording full houses throughout its three-day engagement.

The production, which ran from August 7 to 9 at the Shaw Theatre on Euston Road, London, brought Nigerian theatre, humour and storytelling to audiences in the United Kingdom.

According to the organisers, the production received enthusiastic responses from audiences, critics and theatre enthusiasts, with performances reportedly characterised by laughter, applause and standing ovations.

The production also earned praise for its performances, storytelling and ability to present a distinctly Nigerian narrative in a manner that resonated with both members of the Nigerian diaspora and the wider London theatre community.

One of the major outcomes of the London run was increased demand for Nigerian theatre productions in the UK, with some audience members and theatre stakeholders calling for BAP Productions to return to London every summer with a new production.

The success of Dear Kaffy also highlights the growing international interest in African stories and stage productions, while reinforcing BAP Productions’ mission of taking Nigerian stories, talent and theatrical productions to global audiences.

The London staging was sponsored by Access Bank UK, with support from partners including Bank of America, Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, Bank of Industry, Channels TV, WimBiz, Lagos Mums, Beat FM, Molly Africa, Africa Movie Channel, Heavy Wind Media, University of Westminster and Bridge Clinic.

Commenting on the reception, the Director of BAP Productions, Bolanle Austen-Peters, expressed gratitude to the audience and partners for supporting the production.
