Authority cautions job seekers about bogus employment notices

A warning has been issued by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board to applicants, urging them to disregard a fake recruitment update that claims a status-check portal for the next phase of its recruitment will be opening on Monday, August 3.

This warning was issued by the board in a post on its X handle on Sunday, where it shared a copy of the purported “Official Announcement” marked with a red “FAKE” watermark to emphasize its inauthenticity.

The forged notice falsely claimed that candidates who participated in the recent medical screening would be able to check their recruitment status through the official recruitment portal from August 3, and that shortlisted candidates would proceed to the next stages of the exercise.

These next stages, as outlined in the fake notice, included fitness assessment and oral examination, in an attempt to mislead applicants about the ongoing recruitment process.

The fake notice carried an electronic signature attributed to the Secretary of the Board, Major General A.M. Jibril (retd.), and was dated August 1, 2026, further attempting to lend credibility to the false announcement.

However, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has disowned the document, advising applicants to rely only on information published through its verified communication channels for accurate updates.

This warning comes amid the ongoing 2025 recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Correctional Service, which has drawn thousands of applicants from across the country.

The recruitment process has so far progressed through physical and medical screening stages, with the medical screening exercise having been conducted on June 22, 2026.

As of now, there is no official update on the next phase of the recruitment process, leaving applicants awaiting further instruction from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board.
