Authorities verify a fatality in Kebbi inter-community violence

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the restoration of normalcy in Alwasa Village, Argungu Local Government Area, following a violent clash during the Sallah celebrations that resulted in loss of life.
nThis incident occurred on Monday, March 23, 2026, and began as a confrontation between youths, eventually escalating and leaving several persons injured and at least one dead.
nOne of the injured victims succumbed to their wounds the following day while receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Argungu, prompting a reprisal attack that led to further fatalities.
nIn a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, SP Bashir Usman, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the security situation in Alwasa Village is under control thanks to the deployment of police personnel and reinforcement teams.
nUsman noted that one of the injured victims died while receiving treatment, triggering a reprisal attack that resulted in additional fatalities, and that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved in the incident.
nThe Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, has condemned the violence and warned troublemakers that they will be dealt with decisively if found engaging in unlawful or violent conduct.
nHadejia urged residents to remain calm and appealed to the public to support security efforts by avoiding the spread of unverified information and refraining from taking the law into their own hands.
nSecurity operations are currently ongoing in the area, with further updates expected as investigations into the incident progress.
