Authorities investigate fatal incident involving educator from Kogi who was attacked for punishing student

The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged killing of a primary school teacher, who was reportedly attacked after reprimanding a student in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

A case of culpable homicide was filed at the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on June 25, 2026, according to the Police Command.

This development was announced in a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat.

Initial inquiries, as stated in the statement, indicated that on June 18, 2026, Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly stormed Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, and assaulted a staff member, Maryam Usman, 30, for disciplining a pupil.

As a result of the assault, the victim, Maryam Usman, sustained severe injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being transferred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention, where she eventually passed away on June 25, 2026.

Following the report, operatives from the division visited the scene of the incident and the deceased's residence, where necessary documentation was carried out, according to Afusat.

Arrangements are being made to transport the corpse to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for a medical examination and autopsy, the police spokesperson disclosed.

The suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived, but efforts are underway to apprehend them, according to Afusat.

Upon their capture, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation, she added.
