Authorities investigate death of Adamawa resident discovered suspended from a tree

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a man whose lifeless body was found hanging from a tree at the foothills of Bagale Mountain in Girei Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the police were alerted to the incident in the early hours of the day.

Nguroje said operatives who responded to the scene evacuated the body to Cottage Hospital in Girei, where the victim was confirmed dead.

He said, “The Adamawa State Police Command recorded a case of sudden and unnatural death reported on March 23, 2026, following the discovery of a lifeless body hanging from a tree at the foothills of Bagale Mountain in Girei Local Government Area.

“The victim, identified as Ahmed Mohammed, male, 46, of Anguwan Hona, was taken to Cottage Hospital, Girei, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

He added that an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

“Investigation is currently ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death,” the statement added.

The command urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.

“The command calls on members of the public with useful information to assist the police in the ongoing investigation,” Nguroje said.

The incident has again drawn attention to concerns over emotional well-being and mental health challenges linked to social and economic pressures.
