Authorities in Cross River seize 25 cars, take lawbreakers to court

The Cross River State Police Command has seized 25 vehicles for violating regulations by operating without registration plates or using unauthorized plates, including those that are covered, altered, defaced, or dealer plates.

This enforcement operation was conducted on July 3, 2026, in accordance with a nationwide directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, the offenders are currently being prosecuted under the law, having been subjected to the necessary administrative and legal procedures.

Eitokpah stated that the Cross River State Police Command has intensified its enforcement of the nationwide directive, focusing on vehicles with obscured, altered, or unregistered plates, including those with unauthorized dealer number plates.

The operation, which took place in Calabar Metropolis on July 3, 2026, resulted in the interception of 25 vehicles that were in violation of the directive, and the offenders are now facing prosecution.

The purpose of the exercise is to enhance public safety, improve vehicle identification, and prevent criminal elements from using unregistered or concealed number plates to remain anonymous.
