Authorities in Bauchi detain four individuals in connection with two distinct murder incidents

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended four individuals in connection with two separate cases of culpable homicide, which resulted in the deaths of two people in distinct areas of the state, according to the command's spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement released on Wednesday.

One suspect was taken into custody in relation to the killing of a 25-year-old man, while three others were arrested in connection with the death of a 51-year-old man who was allegedly attacked due to accusations of witchcraft.

The first incident occurred on July 25 at approximately 3:28 p.m., when a 45-year-old resident of Unguwan Kur reported the stabbing of Zahradeen Dan'Azumi Tanko, 25, by Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado, 21, who allegedly conspired with Yahaya Mu'azu, who is currently at large.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and was immediately transported to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention, but unfortunately, the medical doctor on duty confirmed him dead on arrival.

The principal suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, and investigation has been concluded at the preliminary stage and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, according to Habib, who added that the case is being thoroughly investigated.

In the second incident, the Bauchi Police Command received a report on July 21 from residents of the Dandango area, who brought the lifeless body of Monday Chiroma, 51, and preliminary investigations revealed that a group of suspects allegedly attacked Chiroma and another victim, Yelwa Bango, over allegations of bewitching a 20-year-old woman, Jamila Anthony.

The attack was reportedly carried out on the suspicion that the victims were responsible for bewitching Jamila Anthony, who later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Gudun Hausawa, Bauchi, and both victims were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

At the hospital, Chiroma was confirmed dead, while Bango was admitted for treatment, and following a swift response by operatives of E-Division, three suspects were arrested, including Danjuma Anthony, 25; Ayuba Anthony, 22, also known as Babaru; and Christopher Adamu, 34.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the offence, and the police spokesman assured that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with local security operatives and members of the community, to arrest other suspects who remain at large.

The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution, and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned both incidents and urged residents to avoid violence and jungle justice.

The police commissioner also appealed to members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station and reaffirmed the command's commitment to ensuring justice for victims and maintaining law and order across the state.
