Authorities detain multiple individuals following deadly dispute between pastoralists and agricultural workers in Kebbi locality

The Kebbi State Police Command has taken four individuals into custody in connection with the recent outbreak of violence between farmers and herders in Gulma Town, Argungu Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of eight lives.

This development was announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, in a statement released on Thursday, which also indicated that the suspects will soon face a court of law.

The suspects, who have been identified as Adamu Madugu of Gulma, Musa Makera of Sauwa, Saidu Adamu of Sauwa, and Shafi’u Hamza of Gulma, will be charged with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and culpable homicide.

According to the statement, the suspects, including Adamu Madugu, Musa Makera, Saidu Adamu, and Shafi’u Hamza, are set to be arraigned in court on the aforementioned charges.

The Police Command is working to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the violence who are still at large, with efforts intensified to bring them to justice.

The Command stated that it has stepped up efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute all other persons linked to the incident who currently remain at large.

The clash, which occurred earlier in the week in Gulma, a community within Argungu Local Government Area, is said to have originated from long-standing tensions between farming and herding communities.

The violence escalated into a deadly confrontation, resulting in the deaths of eight people and heightening security concerns in the area.

CP Umar Hadejia, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, has assured residents that the Command will ensure justice for the victims and their families.

CP Hadejia stated that the Command will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and ensure that all persons found culpable face the full weight of the law.

He also appealed to residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies, urging them to refrain from taking the law into their own hands while investigations continue.

The CP urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with the authorities as the investigation progresses.
