Authorities detain 10 suspects in Oyo, seize remains of human organs

The Oyo State Police Command has taken into custody 10 individuals suspected of trading in human body parts, and has also seized a number of suspected body parts and charms, according to reports.

The details of the arrest were made public by DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the command's Public Relations Officer, in a statement released to the press on Saturday in Ibadan.

Ayanlade revealed that the suspects were apprehended after months of careful intelligence gathering and covert surveillance by the command's monitoring unit, which had been tracking their activities.

The suspects were found and arrested in separate hideouts located in the Iseyin and Saki areas of the state, Ayanlade said.

Following the arrest, a search of the suspects' hideouts was conducted, resulting in the recovery of several suspected human parts, including one suspected human heart, human flesh, and pieces of human skull, as well as assorted charms.

The seized items have been secured for the purpose of forensic examination and further investigation, according to Ayanlade.

The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators to uncover the circumstances surrounding the source, procurement, and intended use of the recovered exhibits, Ayanlade stated.

Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate, the command's spokesman added.

Mr Abimbola Olugbenga, the State Commissioner of Police, has commended the operatives for their diligent and professional intelligence-led operation, according to Ayanlade.

The Commissioner of Police has assured the public that the command remains committed to eliminating criminal elements from the state and protecting the sanctity of human life, Ayanlade quoted him as saying.
