Authorities conduct simulated gunfire exercise in Jigawa, call for public tranquility

Residents of Tsohon Gari and surrounding communities in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area have been advised to remain calm as the Jigawa State Police Command is set to conduct a routine shooting range exercise on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range.

This development was made public through a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse, the state capital, on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

According to the PPRO, all necessary arrangements have been put in place for the exercise, which is scheduled to take place at the designated facility in Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

SP Adam stated that the command has finalized preparations for the shooting range exercise, which is aimed at enhancing the firearms handling and tactical skills of its personnel, and is set to take place on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The exercise is part of the command's regular training program, which is designed to improve the capacity, professionalism, combat readiness, and operational effectiveness of police personnel, according to the PPRO.

SP Adam explained that the goal of the training is to equip personnel with the necessary skills to effectively discharge their constitutional duties of protecting lives and property across the state.

The command has specifically urged residents living close to the shooting range to remain calm during the exercise, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

SP Adam advised members of the public, particularly residents of Tsohon Gari and its surrounding communities, not to panic upon hearing gunshots during the exercise, as the firing will be conducted in a safe and controlled environment.

The police have also advised members of the public to stay away from the area throughout the training to avoid any incidents and ensure public safety.

The firing will be carried out in a controlled and secured environment under strict supervision, and the command has appealed to residents to avoid the immediate vicinity of the shooting range throughout the duration of the exercise.

According to the Jigawa police spokesperson, the measure is purely preventive and in the interest of the community, aimed at preventing unnecessary fear and ensuring the training proceeds without any hindrance.
