Authorities charge trainee with murder of boss, seize ₦6m in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has taken an apprentice and another suspect to court over the murder of their employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, and the alleged theft of his money, with the command's spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, releasing a statement about the case on Wednesday.

The suspects were arraigned on March 18, 2026, by the State Criminal Investigation Department, according to Ikenga, who provided details about the case.

Chiemerie Anieke, the main suspect, was taken to a High Court in Onitsha, where he appeared alongside Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who allegedly helped with the crime by providing a bank account used to transfer over ₦8m of the deceased's funds.

Ikenga stated that Anieke, 21, allegedly used a pestle to hit his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, on the head, causing his death, and was also linked to an attack on Ogechukwu Nwite at Fegge, Onitsha.

Anieke was arraigned alongside Nwokporo, also 21, who allegedly gave the bank account used to fraudulently transfer over ₦8,000,000 belonging to the deceased, with the recovered sum of ₦6,000,000 being used as evidence in court.

The police were able to recover ₦6,000,000 from the suspects, which is part of the stolen money, and this has been presented as evidence in the ongoing court proceedings, according to Ikenga.

The suspects have been sent to a correctional facility while they wait for the next steps in the case, as announced by Ikenga.

The incident happened in February at Fegge, Onitsha, and reportedly started after a disagreement between the apprentice and his employer over accusations of theft and drug use.

Ikechukwu Nwite, the deceased, was a trader at the popular Ogbo-Ogwu Bridgehead Market in the commercial city, and his death is now the subject of the ongoing court case.
