Authorities apprehend individual in possession of severed human head, hands in Ogun

A 43-year-old man, Idowu Ashafa, has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with the alleged possession of a fresh human head and two human palms, which were found concealed in a nylon bag in Igbesa, Ogun State.

The arrest was made by operatives from the Igbesa Division, who were being supervised by Area Commander ACP Folashade Tanaruno, during a routine patrol that took place in the early hours of April 17, 2026.

Details of the arrest were disclosed by the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement that was issued on Saturday, which revealed that the suspect was intercepted during a routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solotan K. Owolabi.

According to DSP Babaseyi, preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect allegedly exhumed the remains from a grave at Ido Itekun Village, Igbesa, for ritual purposes, and the implement used in the act was recovered by the police.

The police statement confirmed that the scene of the incident was visited and documented, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation to be carried out.
